The book was bound with the pages out of order!! Cheap China manufacturing, no quality control from what used to be a trusted publisher.

I am relatively new to motorcycleing, having 18 months worth of experience. I found the book to be very informative. It covers everything you need to do to plan a trip, the tools available for planning, and step by step instructions. It also has many usefull web sites mentioned. I was particularly interested in the section on adding accessories and am in the process of installing an additional accessory fuse box and HID headlight now.

I’ve owned my first and only bike for less than a year, which is also how long I’ve been riding, and have already made a trip from Jersey to Miami and back! Had I read this book BEFORE I took that trip (on an XL1200C Sportster), I would have been a bit more comfortable. Luckily for me, I didn’t learn any lessons “the hard way”, except for “monkey-butt”, but I surely learned a lot from this book which will make my next long ride (and ANY ride) a LOT more comfortable!

I bought this book to help me prepare myself to travel long distances solo and wanted ideas as to what I should carry with me and some things I really don’t need. Great information book for those looking at a possible long distance motorcycle trip. Well worth the money. And it was very interesting also.

This comprehensive overview gives lots of great information for the new touring rider. If you’ve been touring for a while, this will probably not help you as much, but that goes without saying. The book pages are thick (think photographic paper) with loads of color pictures and diagrams explaining things like how moisture wicking material works to keep you dry. The author includes checklists for things you’ll need to remember and wise advice on practical things we’d all prefer to not learn the hard way, like how to prevent monkeybutt. I highly recommend this to the new rider and consider it a good piece of information for those of us who have ridden for years but are still open to suggestions on improving our ride. (note: I have not had any problems with the binding; construction appears high-quality).
